Big 5 Sporting Goods will be closing next year in January in Redwood City. Looks like that their Peninsula Boardwalk store just couldn't stay open while the Sports Basement operated right next to them. Shame, I prefer Big 5 over Sports Basement.

What in the world went wrong so that the Big 5 Sporting Goods has shuttered unexpectedly in Los Angeles' Beverly Grove on the Wilshire Boulevard? It's a head-scratcher for sure. Love their stores. Oh well, I will try to support their other locations. —  read more

They must have closed in the last month or so since I was there in June buying a new bike for my nephew. No clue as to why they would close in Pasadena. They did rather well for themselves with their store on E Colorado Blvd.

Anyone with a list of Big 5 Sporting Goods stores that will close over the next few months? I'm asking anyone who is willing to listen but nobody seems to know anything. Is that curious or is Big 5 simply in a good place right now with no closings?

That's the rumor, many sports gear chain are dying - look what happened with Sport Chalet and Sports Authority - job cuts, store closures, things are getting worse every day.
