A rep for the District declined to comment on the vacancy, referring all questions to Peet's. In mid-December, the coffee chain announced plans to dial back aggressive expansion that started in 2013. That led to 11 cafe closures in the Midwest. Amy Lester, a spokeswoman for the Bay Area chain, said the Tustin closure is unrelated to the downsizing in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. “As part of our retail business, we continually monitor existing markets, and sometimes make adjustments, based on store performance. We continue to focus on and invest in our current stores in Orange County/Southern California,” she said.
