What we know so far is that Wisconsin-based retail chain Shopko Stores has filed for bankruptcy protection and is planing to close more stores. Last month, it announced plans to close about 40 across the country. As of now headquartered near Green Bay confirmed they are planning to close an additional 38 stores and relocate over 20 optical centers to freestanding locations. The company is seeking to restructure as a result of excess debt and ongoing competition. This means they'll have to make some very tough decisions and start operating with a smaller and more focused store footprint.
But after all, the question remains how will this affect employees, their families and the economy of the affected areas. Because it all suggests that this is only the beginning of the crisis and no one knows how it will end.
