The mysteries behind the Aldi closures

I've been reading on some opinions on why Aldi is closing some locations.

Two that come to mind are the Aldi in Auburn Gresham that closed in Chicago earlier this June and the Aldi in West Garfield Park, also in Chicago that closed last October.

Both have been described as having low sales (with the former being a victim of burglaries, supposedly) but folks online say that is not the case. What's also interesting is that Aldi isn't struggling. The chain is thriving in fact.

So...

What gives? Why is Aldi silently closing some locations? Is this an Occam's razor situation and the reason is really that simple, that the stores underperformed (though the people who did their shopping there say that's not true, let's not forget that) and nothing more. OR is it something else?
